Monday, Sept. 8th
It has been a very eventful weekend. It started Friday afternoon when Glenna returned home from her radiation appointment in Boston. She had a terrible backache and some stomach pain all afternoon. She was resting on the couch, took some Motrin and laying on a heating pad, trying to feel better when she started getting the chills, which turned into violent shaking. We took her upstairs and put her to bed and she then began to spike a fever which varied from 102 to almost 104 degrees. She was then sweating and hotter than hell. At that point she lost her ability to speak and walk and we then called the team up in Boston who went through a list of questions and recommended she get to an emergency room immediately to be checked out for a possible infection in her blood, or elsewhere. We chose to take her to Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, where we spent from midnight to 6 a.m. in the ER. They poked and prodded her and put her on some general antibiotics (3 different kinds). Her fever came down and she started feeling alot better. They admitted her into a room and called MGH to see if they had a room for her there. Later on Sat., MGH called saying they had a room at the Phillips House. So she was transported by ambulance and has been here since Saturday.
Most of the blood cultures they did at Jordan came back negative, but they did more cultures here at MGH and since she is on Bactrim, they say some things could be masked in the tests. They still think that she has had some sort of bacterial infection, and want her to remain here another 24 hours to be monitored. They are going to do an ultra sound on her pelvic area today to see if it shows anything going on. She is feeling a whole lot better, and is actually eating really well here. We were all pretty sure and counting on the fact that she would be going home today, so when Dr. Lawrence examined her this morning and told her she needed to stay another day, she was pretty upset. She wants to get out of here - now! But she will be the good patient and I'm glad they're being cautious before sending her home. She will remain on an oral antibiotic when she does leave to combat anything that may still be in her system.
Jake is on his way up now, as he has today off. It will help her spirits alot to have him here. I will probably return to the cape tonight, and hopefully everyone else will go home tomorrow.
The roller coaster ride seems to never end. But I just wanted you all to know the latest. Her phone is dead and she does not have her charger, but if anyone wants to talk to her, you can call her on my cell phone: 508-367-9025.
Keep up the good vibes - she needs them.....Love, MK
