Radiation over! Glenna made it through 4 of the 5 treatments. Today was her 4th, and because she had some seizure reaction to most of them, they felt they did not want to put her through the 5th attempt. So Dr. Shih told her today that this would be the last one. It could be too dangerous to push on. She may still have cumulative affects over the next couple of weeks, but with enough rest and watching, she should be OK. We learned not to leave her alone, as one of the days after she had treatment, Bob, Jake & I were waiting in the hallway for her to set up another appointment, and she had a seizure and could not speak. She was scared and embarrassed and we felt so bad. Even though we were only feet away from her, she felt totally alone. We will never let that happen again - and she is fine with knowing that. It's a very scary time for her, so the more comforting things are, the better.
She really enjoyed having Jake up in Boston with her. We were all able to go out last night to a nice dinner at Grill 23 (the gift certificate she won at Nicole's benefit). What a great restaurant it is. We stuffed ourselves (even Glenna) and then walked back to Beacon Hill. Then this morning was a major highlight for Glenna. We went to the Paramount for breakfast (one of her faves) and while standing in line, I bumped into someone and turned to say excuse me, and what do you know, it was Mike Lowell! He happens to be Glenna's favorite Sox player. He was there with his adorable daughter and they sat right next to us for breakfast. No! We did not hound him. In fact, everyone in the restaurant was very respectful and let him be (but it was hard). But it made Glenna's day to see him so close. And by the way, he's adorable!!!
She and Bob are still in Boston. They will stay tonight and touch base with Dr. Shih in the morning to let her know how things are going. If all is well, they will head home. Her duties now are to rest, eat and rest! She will have another dose of chemo again next week, so she needs to get strong. So once again, it will be life as usual at the lake...waiting and hoping. No more treatments for now. Keeping our chins to the sky!!! Love you all, MK
