December 9th

Hello again. Today is a good day. Perhaps the best yet. Glenna continues to progress daily - her counts and her spirits keep rising. The worst of it now is her fatigue. She says she could nap every 2 hours if she let herself. The docs say that this will most likely stay with her for a couple of weeks after she's home, but should start getting better after that. Yesterday was a beautiful day here and we were able to leave the hospital for about 4 hours. We walked a little and hung out at the lodge. I made some dinner there. Glenna is starting to eat more now (still bird-like, but at least some solid food). Today the temperature dropped about 15 degrees-pretty cool. We were able to leave the hospital at noon today and don't have to be back until 6pm. They are having a football dinner at the lodge at 4pm (chili/veggie chili and cornbread.....yeah). So we can indulge and watch at least the beginning of the game. (I sure hope they will be watching the Pats, or we may have to start a protest!!!)

Its pretty quiet at the hospital on weekends. Tomorrow will be a big day. All the main doctors will be back and we will get some definitive directions to what the week holds. They did make the decision that she will have to have the steroid shot in her ear 3 times. They have determined recently that this repeated process has the best results of maintaining full hearing function. So she has her 2nd shot this Wednesday. After that, if all her counts have come up to normal levels, she may be able to leave. So we're keeping our fingers and toes crossed that we'll be able to come home either Wednesday or Thursday. If she does, she will come back in 2 weeks for her third shot and her first set of scans. Then scans again one month later. Those will be the ones that tell the real story.

Tomorrow is supposed to be warm again here, so we are going to venture into Bethesda and stroll around town and have lunch in one of the many good restaurants in town. That will be a real treat for her. I am hoping that they will let her sleep at the lodge after today. I would be great for her to get out of her hospital room. She always feels better when she gets out.

Well, enough for now. Glenna sends her love to all of you. I'll update again soon.

Love, MK
